What Makes an Ironing Chair Different to a Normal Chair?
These chairs are designed to be able to help take the weight off your feet and legs for a short period of time. A few buyers referred to these as a "perch" rather than a seat. We like that description as it sums these up nicely.
These are fairly light (average weight 9 lbs) and they fold up quickly for storage. All of these chairs can be adjusted to different heights and that is of course really important.
They are not really designed for comfort, so not suitable for sitting on for any long period of time. They are comfortable enough though for short bursts of sitting up to about 30-45 minutes.
General Ironing Board Chair Information
There is not massive choice for this type of ironing chair on the UK market. The huge majority of people, who are healthy and well, will simply stand up to do their ironing, or other standing type jobs around the home.
So, the reality is, people who need a chair like this really fall into two groups. My mum, who is in her 80s likes to have one of these around the kitchen, and uses it for some light ironing, cooking, working with plants and her washing up. She likes her independence, and this type of chair really helps her out.
The other group of people who would consider this type of chair, are those who suffer from back pain, or who simply can't spend a lot of time standing up. There can be a whole range of reasons for this, but a chair like this can help them get off their feet, and still be able to get some things done.
Our List of Ironing Board Chairs
We could only find one option.
1. Ribelli Ironing Support
This chair sells really well on the UK market. Many people also use this type of chair for craft work and at other times when they need a break from standing all of the time
It can hold weights of up to 100 Kg (15.5 Stones or 220 lbs)
It can be adjusted in height from 58 - 72 cm
Most buyers like this because of the slightly larger seat and the back support. - it is also worth mentioning that the back support has a cover that is easy to remove for washing.
It folds down for easier storage.

Our Thoughts
When we read through the many reviews, the only complaints we could find about this chair was that the seat is uncomfortable if being used for a longer period of time. The seats on all of this type of ironing chair are pretty much the same.
There is not a lot of padding, and the seat is made of wood to make it strong enough to sustain the weight. For perching this type of seat works OK, and it is not really designed for full weight sitting. This chair is well enough made and feels sturdy enough. Many buyers really liked the distinct orange colour.
Ironing Chair Alternatives.
The reality is that there is not a massive choice for this type of chair. As we mentioned earlier the huge majority of people will stand up to do their ironing. Many homes with both parents working now simply send their laundry out to be ironed. We understand that both of these options are fine, if you are fit and healthy, or have enough money to be able to afford getting the ironing done.
These chairs are however an alternative for people who simply are in pain if they have to stand too long.
1. Wall Mounted Ironing Boards
One alternative is to have a wall mounted ironing board. This type of board attaches to the wall, and you bring it down when you want to do your ironing.
That will allow you to get a chair underneath it as there are no ironing board legs in the way. Likewise you can use a small stool if you prefer.
These are also a good option if you are tight for space. Some people attach these to a door so as when the door is closed they are out of sight.

2. Table Top Ironing Boards
Another alternative is to have a table top ironing board. This type of board simply sits on a table, and you take it out when you want to do your ironing.
That allows you to get a chair underneath the table and you can then iron from your favourite chair.
These then typically hang up by a hook on the back of a door or a wall.
This type of solution works well for smaller items such as shirts and trousers. It doesn't really work for larger items like sheets.
