The Power Steam Elite 4223 from Morphy Richards is the next level up from the Jet Stream 42234 and brings with it a price point close to £110.
That is a big improvement though, because when it was first released it was a handsome £200. The bottom line though, is it worth the extra money when compared to the cheaper versions? Let’s have a look at that in more detail.
Key Features of the Elite 42223
From the image above I think you will agree that the iron looks good and has a very distinct appearance. It is in keeping with the traditional Morphy Richards look.
The bottom line though is that for around £110 I just think you would expect this level of quality. The important features of the Elite 4223 are what makes this steam generating iron get such good reviews.
- 180 grams of instant steam
- 4.5 bar pressure
- A 2 litre tank
- Easy clean
- Ceramic soleplate
The Soleplate
There are other features of course but it is the combination of the above that makes this iron one of the best on the market. The ceramic sole plate is in my opinion worth its weight in gold.
If you have in the past used a basic metal plate and then upgraded to a ceramic one, then you will know exactly what I am talking about. There is no snagging or sticking when you have a plate made from this material and for me that makes a world of difference when you are ironing.
Steam Settings
The settings on this are simple to use with low, medium and high. So depending on the fabric you are ironing you simply set the switch and you are good to go.
There is no need to try and figure out temperatures and all those fiddly settings. With a full 180 grams of output, there is more than enough steam created to get rid of the most stubborn of wrinkles.
Controls
With some of these irons you need an encyclopaedia to try and figure out how to use them. The control panel on this one is as simple as I have seen and in a couple of minutes you will become very familiar with your iron.
It is clear and concise and easy to see. That may not sound that important but if you have used other similar irons, then again you will know what I mean.
When you pick a steam level it turns blue.
When the water needs to be re-filled a different blue light comes on.
When the iron needs to be cleaned a red light comes on and in all honesty, it does not get much simpler than that in any iron that you will buy. The iron does come with an instruction booklet and that is worth a read. If you are anything like me though you tend to skim over that.
The only thing I would like to mention is that every now and then your iron will need cleaned so please read the short maintenance section, as that will help prolong the life of your new iron.

Other Reviews on the Morphy Richards 42223
I check a few websites when it comes to having a look at other reviews. One great place to do that is over at Amazon, where actually buyers will sometimes leave reviews, and also rate the product out of a score of 5 stars.
When you have a look online, there are over 750 buyer reviews and that should tell you that this one sells really well. The average rating for this product is 84% buyer satisfaction and that should tell you that the 4223 is a very good steam generating iron.
Most of the people who bought this iron liked it a lot. I would summarise it as follows as I like to be realistic when reading and interpreting reviews. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a good quality product. It is however a BIG iron and that makes it difficult to store away. You almost need to have a specific place where you can put this away safely.
Storage
Most steam generating irons are large and when you have a big water tank like this one they just take up a lot more room. If you are thinking of buying any type of steam generator, please be aware of this. They are much bigger and more bulky than your standard iron.
Our Verdict on the Morphy Richards Power Steam Elite 42223
I read a few complaints about the durability of this product. Some people did have what they perceived to be a poor quality product. Some thought the design was poor and others said that the iron they received broke down. This product does come with a full 2-year guarantee so hopefully that should give you peace of mind.
I don’t know about you but if I spend close to £100 on any product I will always look for a guarantee of at least a year. This one has 2 years and if it goes faulty, then I would of course get it replaced.
Overall though the vast majority of the reviews online and on the main Morphy Richards website are very positive. If this is not the Morphy Richards iron for you, then check out our list of all the Morphy Richards irons, by clicking here.
That pretty much sums this product up in my opinion. The 42223 is not cheap but certainly not the most expensive and will make a great iron for most households. If you would prefer to see a top 10 list of all brands then please click here.
I hate ironing and unlnutroatefy I think my irons know this because they keep blowing up! In under a year I managed to get through 5 irons! I kept taking them back to the shop and getting a better one each time but the flipping things still gave up the ghost! Mind you .fingers crossed I’ve had my current iron (and yes it’s a Morphy Richards) for 6 months and it’s still working of course I’ve probably cursed it now and expect it to blow any day now
Have faith Beni
Does anyone know how much the actual handheld iron weighs?
