In this section I will cover off those basic, but very important features. There are any number of these type of irons available, so what are the key features of this particular model.
No Need to set the Temperature
Like all the models in this PerfectCare range, this one is all about making ironing easy. With many irons, you have to adjust the temperature manually, depending on what fabric you are ironing. With this GC8616 model, and any of the Philip’s irons in the PerfectCare range, you do not have to do this.
The iron uses a lot of steam, and also auto-adjusts to suit the fabric that you are ironing. That means no burning and no scorching because the iron was too hot.
Steam and Booster
This one runs off a 120 gram per minute of continuous steam. It also has a shot of 240 grams per minute for the more stubborn wrinkles and creases.
The iron heats up very quickly thanks to a 2,4oo watt power, and this model is ready to use 2 minutes after you switch it on.
Water Tank
It has a big 2.5 litre tank so that will reduce the number of trips to the sink to fill up. It also has a simple de-calc function, that makes this iron very easy to clean.
It takes around a minute to keep the iron scale free, and you need to do this after about 10 hours of ironing.

Overall this iron gets good reviews. It has an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. That has been as a result of over 150 buyer reviews. What that tells us is, that this one sells regularly, and overall buyers are satisfied with their purchase. In particular buyers said the following:

- There is no locking mechanism which many other irons have
- There is nowhere to store the electric cable away
- The water tank does not attach which is inconvenient – needs filled with a jug

Summary & Recommendation For The GC8616/30
Overall this iron gets a good rating from buyers. It certainly gets the job done and overall buyers are very satisfied with their purchase.
From the cons, you can see there are some minor design weaknesses. To address those you have to buy a steam generating iron, at the next level up. That of course means a higher price tag.
Buyers clearly like this particular model, and the brand is certainly a well known and reliable one.
